हापुड़। नगर पालिका परिषद के जलनिकासी सुधार और नालों की सफाई के दावों की मंगलवार को हुई चंद मिनटों की बारिश ने हकीकत सामने ला दी। महज कुछ देर की बारिश में शहर के प्रमुख बाजार और सड़कें जलमग्न हो गईं। गोल मार्केट में घुटनों तक पानी भर गया, जबकि अतरपुरा चौराहे के दोनों ओर जलभराव होने से राहगीरों और वाहन चालकों को भारी परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ा। नालों का गंदा पानी सड़कों पर बहने से लोगों को उसी के बीच से होकर गुजरना पड़ा।

बारिश के दौरान गोल मार्केट का नजारा किसी तालाब से कम नहीं था। बाजार में दुकानों के सामने पानी भर गया और दोपहिया वाहन बीच रास्ते में बंद हो गए। कई लोगों को अपने वाहन धक्का लगाकर पानी से बाहर निकालने पड़े। व्यापारियों और स्थानीय लोगों ने नगर पालिका की कार्यप्रणाली पर सवाल उठाते हुए कहा कि हर वर्ष बरसात से पहले नालों की सफाई के नाम पर लाखों रुपये खर्च किए जाते हैं, लेकिन पहली ही बारिश में व्यवस्थाओं की पोल खुल जाती है।

गौरतलब है कि करीब एक सप्ताह पहले ही नगर पालिका ने गोल मार्केट क्षेत्र में अतिक्रमण हटाने का अभियान चलाया था। इसके साथ ही नालों की सफाई पर भी बड़ी धनराशि खर्च करने का दावा किया गया था। अधिकारियों का कहना था कि इस बार बरसात में जलभराव की समस्या नहीं होगी, लेकिन मंगलवार की बारिश ने इन दावों को पूरी तरह कटघरे में खड़ा कर दिया।

स्थानीय लोगों का कहना है कि नालों की सफाई केवल औपचारिकता बनकर रह गई है। कई स्थानों पर नालों की सिल्ट पूरी तरह नहीं निकाली गई, जिससे बारिश का पानी निकासी नहीं पा सका और सड़कों पर भर गया। लोगों ने नगर पालिका से स्थायी समाधान की मांग करते हुए कहा कि हर साल लाखों रुपये खर्च होने के बावजूद शहर को जलभराव से राहत नहीं मिल रही है।

Hapur: A brief spell of rain on Tuesday exposed the claims of the Hapur Municipal Council regarding its monsoon preparedness and drainage management. Despite spending lakhs of rupees on drain cleaning and encroachment removal, several parts of the city were submerged after just a few minutes of rainfall.

Gol Market witnessed knee-deep waterlogging, while both sides of Atarpura Chowk were inundated, causing severe inconvenience to commuters, shoppers, and local traders. People were forced to wade through dirty drain water as rainwater mixed with overflowing drains spread across the roads.

Several two-wheelers broke down after getting stuck in the waterlogged streets. Vehicle owners had to push their bikes through the flooded roads to reach safer areas. The waterlogging also disrupted normal traffic movement and created difficulties for pedestrians.

Notably, just a week ago, the Municipal Council had carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Gol Market and claimed to have cleaned the drains by spending a substantial amount of public money. Officials had assured residents that the area would remain free from waterlogging during the monsoon.

However, Tuesday’s rainfall raised serious questions over the effectiveness of those measures. Residents and traders alleged that the drain-cleaning exercise failed to resolve the long-standing problem, as the same areas were flooded once again after a short spell of rain.

Locals have urged the Municipal Council to implement a permanent solution to the city's drainage issues instead of relying on temporary measures, warning that heavier monsoon showers could worsen the situation if immediate corrective action is not taken.
