Congress Celebrates 80th Independence Day in Pilkhuwa, Rakesh Tyagi Hoists Tricolour
Hapur: Congress workers celebrated the 80th Independence Day in Pilkhuwa on Saturday, August 15, 2026. District Congress Committee President Rakesh Tyagi hoisted the national flag at Indira Chowk and saluted the Tricolour in the presence of local residents and party workers.

The programme began with the singing of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem, followed by tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence. Rakesh Tyagi extended Independence Day greetings to the people of Hapur district.

Former MLA Gajraj Singh attended the programme as the special guest. Senior Congress leaders and workers were also honoured with flower garlands and shawls during the event. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of senior Congress leader Dr. Asaram Sharma, who recently passed away unexpectedly.

Addressing the gathering, District Congress President Rakesh Tyagi said that the Tricolour represents the honour, pride, dignity and national sovereignty of the country. He said Congress workers remain committed to the values represented by the national flag.

Former MLA Gajraj Singh said that the country's independence was achieved through the sacrifices of Congress leaders, freedom fighters and great national personalities. He said that on Independence Day, everyone should remember the country's great heroes and resolve to follow their ideals.

Hapur City Congress President Irfan Ahmed said that the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle can never be forgotten. He recalled the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders in India's freedom movement.

Pilkhuwa City Congress President Rajnish Tyagi criticised the policies of the BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh. He said that Congress would work towards returning to power in Uttar Pradesh in 2027 and at the national level in 2029.

District spokesperson and senior vice-president Advocate Shehzada Chaudhary also addressed the gathering and spoke about the freedom struggle and the need to uphold democratic values.

After the flag-hoisting ceremony in Pilkhuwa, District Congress President Rakesh Tyagi reached Atarpura Chowk in Hapur, where he paid tribute at the statue of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

AICC member, former Pradesh Congress Vice-President and PCC Observer Rizwan Qureshi, former Youth Congress Pradesh Vice-President and PCC Observer Narendra Chauhan, and PCC Observer Hapur Pankaj Tejania were also present.






Several Congress workers and local leaders, including Sushil Shastri, Pawan Kaushik, Savita Gautam, Saurabh Sharma, Kapil Sharma, Gaurav Garg, Madan Singh Chauhan, Satish Tyagi, Advocate Mohammad Furqan, Moolchand Saxena, Munshi Habib, Lal Bahadur, Nafees Khan, Mohammad Parvez, Master Jaipal Singh, Advocate Gulfam Saifi, Sahil Saifi, Chhuttan Member, Manish Tyagi, Amir Malik, Ajit Sharma, Aadesh Sharma, Vinod Sharma, Mukesh Sharma, Sonu Abbasi, Haji Naushad, Advocate Yogesh Sharma, Sabir Member, Anees Hawari, Prem Sharma, Advocate Sachin, Akram, Sumit Aggarwal, Bobby Tyagi, Shehzad Mewati, Gopal Bharti and Mehboob Ali, attended the programme.
